How the International FreeForm Fiberart Guild Started

Some years ago, when the Internet was new and everyone was on AOL, a group of crocheters found each other. We chatted and shared, learning that we were all fans of something called Freeform Crochet. Eventually, we wanted to share with a wider group and ultimately came to Yahoo groups as the International Freeform Fiberart Guild.

We participated in various group activities, such as swaps and challenges but as the group grew, it became more difficult to coordinate group projects. For the last several years, the IFFFG has issued an annual Challenge. We propose a theme and people are encouraged to join in interpreting the theme as they feel inspired. Photos of their work are exhibited in an online gallery and published in book form. This website is the online gallery.

  1. Our facebook crochet group is interested in your projects, but I wonder if you can tell us where the profits for the sold books go? We have heard to charities, but I can't find any mention of which charities . . .

    1. Thank you for your question Leslie.
If you click on the Annual Challenge 'tab', at the top of this page, you will find the charities we donate to listed beneath each book. Sometimes it is one charity, and sometimes it is two.
A brief list of charities that we have previously donated to are: Doctors Without Borders, The International Red Cross, Kiva org, Heifer Project, Mercy Corp for Haitian Relief, & Souls of Samanya.
As we have a worldwide membership, we like to choose International charities.
This years' charity is yet to be voted on.

  2. To Cyra and Jorel -- I simply cannot believe what an incredible job you do with this site. I have tried a bit of online work myself so I recognize how tedious and demanding it can be. When I go through the gallery, and see how you have organized each piece of work, I am awestruck!! The work of each contributing member is absolutely wonderful!! Thank you sincerely, to each and every one of you!!

    1. Thank you Shirley. Your kind words are very much appreciated. Yes it is a LOT of work (all voluntary) and I don't get anything else in my life done for the whole month of May, lol, but it is so worth every minute to see the final show in place and all the lovely fiberart eye-candy. Thanks again :)
